THE STORY BEHIND BLUE CONNECTION

More than a name, a conviction.

Blue Connection was born from a simple conviction: the blue economy’s greatest challenges can only be addressed by creating connections between people, disciplines, territories, research and industry.

Why « Blue Connection »?

When I created Blue Connection, I wasn’t simply looking for a company name.
I wanted a name that reflected the way I work and my vision of the blue economy.

The idea first emerged a few years earlier in San Diego, California, on the shores of the Pacific, before becoming Blue Connection when I returned to France.

Blue, because everything that drives me is connected to the ocean, maritime territories and the innovations that contribute to their sustainable development.

Connection, because the best projects rarely come from an isolated idea. They emerge when the right people, the right expertise and the right disciplines come together.

For more than ten years, this idea has guided every project I take on: building bridges, connecting people and fostering collaborations that can create lasting impact.

This philosophy is also reflected in Blue Connection’s signature: “Innovation FOR and BY the Ocean.”

FOR the Ocean, because innovation should help preserve, restore and sustainably enhance marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

BY the Ocean, because the ocean is also an extraordinary source of inspiration. Its challenges spark creativity, encourage new forms of collaboration and inspire solutions grounded in real-world needs.

More than a tagline, it reflects my conviction that innovation only makes sense when it is designed with the ocean, for the ocean and with the people whose lives and livelihoods depend on it.

A transdisciplinary approach.

This way of bringing different perspectives together began to take shape during my studies.

At Sciences Po Aix, I learned to look at the same challenge from different angles: economics, geopolitics, law, management, international relations…

It is a way of thinking that has stayed with me ever since, and one that has proved particularly valuable in a field as interconnected as the blue economy.

Whether working with a startup developing an innovation, a university bringing research to market, an international organization shaping a strategy or a territory building a collaborative project, my role is to create bridges between expertise, sectors and stakeholders to develop solutions that are more relevant, creative and sustainable.

Today, this ability to connect ideas, disciplines and people lies at the heart of Blue Connection’s DNA.

More than an interdisciplinary approach, I advocate for a transdisciplinary approach, bringing together different disciplines, sectors and cultures to imagine solutions that no single stakeholder could build alone.

A vision shaped by experience.

Building connections cannot be improvised.
It requires understanding the realities, constraints and objectives of each stakeholder within an ecosystem.

My career has given me that perspective.

I have worked within competitiveness clusters, maritime clusters and chambers of commerce, supporting the development of innovation ecosystems.

I have also experienced the other side of the table, as an entrepreneur and co-founder of innovative projects, facing the challenges of startup development, strategic structuring and investment readiness.

I have worked alongside universities, research centers, international organizations and public institutions on collaborative projects, sector strategies and public policies.

This diversity of experience now allows me to act as a bridge between these different worlds.

I understand their timelines, ways of working and expectations, which enables me to facilitate dialogue, identify common ground and create the conditions for effective collaboration.

Ultimately, my work is as much about translating between different worlds as it is about building strategies.

Bringing these worlds together and helping them understand, collaborate and move forward together, is at the heart of Blue Connection today.

The Blue Economy knows no borders.

Based in Toulon, at the heart of the Mediterranean, I support companies, international organizations, universities and public institutions around the world.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to live and work in different international environments, particularly in the United States, and to collaborate with stakeholders from many countries, maritime regions and professional cultures.

My consulting assignments, European projects, work with international organizations, conferences and industry events have enabled me to build a strong international network, which I now leverage to facilitate collaboration, identify the right partners and open new opportunities for my clients.

More than a network, a global perspective.

Traveling, working and collaborating across very different contexts has taught me that there is no single way to address maritime challenges. Each territory develops its own solutions, builds its own innovation ecosystems and creates a unique relationship with the ocean.

This diversity of perspectives fuels my creativity, enriches my analysis and helps me identify ideas, methods and inspiring partnerships that can be adapted to other contexts.

Beyond borders, I am interested in maritime ecosystems in all their diversity. Observing practices, understanding local challenges and encouraging the exchange of experience between territories are an integral part of how I work.

Innovation only creates impact when it is adopted.

I have always been fascinated by innovations that can help preserve, restore and enhance marine ecosystems. But no matter how promising an innovation may be, it only creates value when it is actually used.

A technology can be brilliant.
Research can be remarkable.
A patent can open extraordinary possibilities.
Yet without a viable business model, users, partners or a deployment strategy, these innovations risk remaining confined to a laboratory or sitting on a shelf.

This is precisely where I come in.

I help companies, researchers, startups and project leaders turn innovation into a solution that can be adopted, deployed and sustained over time. By bringing a strategic, marketing and business perspective, I help shape business models that enable innovations to create concrete, lasting and measurable impact.

Because ultimately, the best technology is not necessarily the most sophisticated. It is the one that addresses a real need and finds its place in the real world.

While blue technologies have played an important role throughout my career, what truly drives me is innovation in its broadest sense.

Innovation is not only about developing new technology. It is also about imagining new models of cooperation, changing practices, designing nature based solutions, developing low tech approaches or adapting a solution to the realities of a specific territory.

Innovation only makes sense when it addresses a concrete need and is embraced by the people who will use it.

Every territory has its own challenges, resources, constraints and practices. A solution that performs well in one context may not necessarily be the most relevant elsewhere.

This is why I favor a pragmatic approach focused on the real needs of users and local communities. Sometimes, breakthrough technology is the best answer. At other times, a simpler, more accessible solution or one inspired by local knowledge will create greater impact.

The goal is not to deploy the most advanced technology, but to find the solution that best addresses the problem at hand.

One conviction across everything I do.

Whether I am supporting a startup, building a European consortium, facilitating an international workshop or showcasing an innovation through the BlueTech Around the World podcast, the same conviction guides everything I do: the challenges of the blue economy are solved by creating the right connections between people, disciplines, territories and ideas.

BLUE CONNECTION
Innovation
FOR and BY the Ocean.

“I believe in innovations that address real needs, create value for organizations and generate a positive impact for the ocean and the communities that depend on it.”
